GENERAL
Blastronix Video controller is a 422 card ideal for controlling a range of high end video and tape editing equipment. The card is designed for communicating with single units or can be installed in a multidrop environment for communicating with up to 32 devices per port. All cards come with 16C554 UART's which feature 16 byte transmit and receive buffers to help guard against loss of data in your busy system. The 16C554 is a 4 port version of the popular 16C550 UART.
The 16C654 UART's are available which offer 64 byte FIFO's and automatic flow control capability. All cards may be addressed as COM1 - COM4 or any other I/O address you choose up to 3FF hex. Because each port's address may be defined individually, you don't have to worry about address conflicts as you do with cards which use 32 and 64 byte blocks for addressing. These cards are compatible with all application software packages that communicate with a standard serial port using an 8250, 16C450 or 16C550 type UART. These cards are compatible with OS/2, Windows 3.X, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, UNIX, REAL32, and XENIX.
Standard DB9 Female connectors are used. These cards are ISA bus cards and operate at speeds of up to 460,800 bits per second and transmit distances of up to 5000 feet.
Interrupt sharing
Our interrupt sharing allows multiple ports on a single card to all use the same interrupt. Ten interrupt choices are available for each port. These include IRQs 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 ,14 , and 15. The interrupt status register may be located at any address and when used with interrupt sharing it will supply you with a pointer to indicate which port has an interrupt pending. This feature allows you to find out which of the four ports has a pending interrupt with only a single read operation thereby reducing interrupt overhead significantly. The onboard interrupt sequencer further reduces interrupt overhead by providing only one pending interrupt at a time. After the status register is read the next pending interrupt is loaded into the status register.
DCE & DTE SELECTABLE
Each port's entire pin out can be reversed simply by removing or installing a single jumper. This allows the card to plug straight into the deck with a standard 9 pin cable or by installing one jumper the port can be set for DCE or DTE individually.
HIGH SPEED CAPABILITY
Each port is capable of operating at up to 460,800 bits per second. When operating at these high speeds you may want to request your unit be equipped with the 16C654 UART which features 64 byte transmit and receive buffers on each port and is capable of automatically initiating flow control in both hardware (RTS/CTS) and software (XON/XOFF) modes.
